Here's the short version: I don't want your data. I'm not in the business of collecting it, selling it, or doing anything interesting with it. This isn't a tech startup. It's a guy with a laptop on a porch in Savannah.
But the internet requires me to say a few things clearly, so here goes.
What We Collect
If you leave a comment on a post, we store your name, email address, and the comment itself. This helps us know who's talking and reply if we need to.
If you subscribe to the newsletter (assuming I ever figure out how to set one up without overcomplicating it), we store your email address so we can send you posts.
That's it. No cookies for tracking. No analytics that follows you around the web. No pixels. No retargeting.
What We Don't Do
We don't sell your information to anyone. Not now, not ever. I don't have a sales team. I don't have a marketing department. I have a Big Green Egg and a hammock.
We don't use affiliate links. So no one is paying us to send you anywhere. Every recommendation in The Dad File is something I bought myself, with my own money, for someone I love.
We don't track your browsing behavior across other sites.
Third-Party Services
This site is hosted on a standard web platform (I haven't decided which one yet — I'm still figuring this out). That platform may collect basic server logs — IP address, browser type, time of visit — the usual technical stuff that keeps websites running. I don't look at that data. I don't know what to do with it. I just want to make sure the site loads when you click the link.
Comments and Public Posts
If you leave a comment, it's visible to anyone who reads the site. Please don't share personal information you wouldn't want public. I don't pre-moderate comments, but I reserve the right to remove anything that's spam, abusive, or just plain mean.
Your Rights
If you want me to delete any data I have about you — your comment, your email, anything — just email me. I'll take care of it. It might take me a couple of days because I have a job and two kids, but I'll get to it.
Children's Privacy
This site is written by a dad for other parents. I don't knowingly collect data from children. If a kid comments, that's on their parent to monitor.
Changes to This Policy
If anything changes, I'll update this page. I'll try to keep it simple. I might add a newsletter someday. I might add a comments section with more features. But I'll never sell your data. That's not who I am.
Contact
If you have questions, email me at: [email protected]
I'll respond. Might take a day or two. I'm usually on the porch or at the hardware store.
